Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 23, 2026

Short version: GridPrice measures usage, not people. There are no accounts and no ads. The website and app use Google Analytics for aggregate usage counts — screens viewed, app opens, device type. We never collect names, emails, or anything that identifies you personally.

What the app stores

Your settings — selected state and utility, alert thresholds, color preferences, and widget options — are stored only on your device. They never leave it. Uninstalling the app deletes them.

What our server sees

When the app or website loads prices from gridprice.app, our server sees standard web request information (IP address, request time, requested endpoint), which appears in routine server logs. We use logs only to keep the service running, don't build profiles from them, and don't sell or share them.

Usage analytics

The gridprice.app website and the GridPrice app use Google Analytics (via Firebase in the app) to understand how GridPrice is used — things like which screens are viewed, how often the app is opened, device type, and approximate region. This is aggregate usage measurement: we don't collect names or emails, we don't set user IDs, and we don't use this data to identify or profile individuals. Google processes this data under Google's privacy policy; you can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking analytics in your browser.

Notifications

Price alerts are generated on your device by comparing public price data against thresholds you set. No notification content is sent to us.

Third-party services

  • Price data comes from public utility and grid-operator feeds (ComEd, Ameren Illinois, ERCOT, NYISO, SPP). When the app contacts them directly, those services see your device's IP address, as with any internet request.
  • The website loads the Space Grotesk font from Google Fonts and uses Google Analytics (see above); both see standard request information.
  • If you choose to support GridPrice via Buy Me a Coffee, that transaction happens entirely on buymeacoffee.com under their privacy policy — we never see your payment details.

Children

GridPrice is a utility-price viewer and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone, children included.

Changes

If GridPrice's data practices ever change (for example, adding opt-in crash reporting), this policy will be updated first, with the date above revised.
